May 31, 1962, Ninety-six classmates from the Class of ’62 graduated. Our vision of the future was shaped by plans for the following year. With thoughts of higher education, the armed forces and impending engagements, who could think any further ahead? The freedoms on the other side of the school walls consumed our days and filled our dreams. When we started our new journey after graduation we were called "the graduates of the Class of ’62". We have all suffered from disappointments, illnesses, and loss of loved ones. We have also shared the joys of friendships, job promotions, raising families, and enjoying grandchildren. We all remember how September 11, 2001, changed many of our lives. Our sense of security had been shattered, but as Americans we pulled together and stood tall and supported our great nation and moved forward. Now we have acquired a new title, “Senior Citizens.” As age steals away the years, we are faced with making the decision to retire or continue to work. Regardless what we choose, the Bellwood-Antis Class of ’62, are survivors. As we continue our journey through the “Golden Years,” we will enjoy each new day as it was our last. We will cherish every moment spent with family and friends and enjoy the journey as long as it last.
Celebrating Father's Day with Classmates: June 14, Classmates joined together at our usual monthly meeting place (Hoss's). We enjoyed dinner and celebrated the birthdays of Kay Hornberger Pfahler and Jack Oswald with song and Hoss's complimentary individual birthday cakes. We were glad to see Merle Barger join us after being in the hospital for two weeks and diagnosed with cancer. he will be having Chemo and Radiation treatment at John Murtha Hospital in Johnstown. Walt Carothers' wife Judy joined us and was doing well after having hip replacement surgery.
Jenny shared several jokes with the group about father's using several classmates names that brought on the laughter. Then we played Father's Trivia Questions with information that was new to some of us.
Father's Day started back in 1910, and the custom of giving a necktie as a gift on Father's Day began. Since then, the modern man defines neckties as (bright colored complicatedoxygen restricting knot.) Today men refuse to wear ties and some do not remember or know how to tie a tie. That is what brought this fun idea to my mind. We had women tie the tie on the man without instructions from him for help. A demonstration was given twice before the contest started. Pictures were taken and we had a lot of fun, there were only a few that pasted the test. Prizes were given out to the winners. Kathy Madara did a wonderful job on John Cook's tie but forgot to put his collar down. Jane McGinnis did a beautiful job with Jerry's tie. Ann Barger tied John Helsley's tie and did a great job. Some of the ties the top piece was tie shorter than the under piece. If you need your tie tied don't ask Kathie Cross, she didn't do well with Harold Miler's tie. It was a lot of fun and was the highlight of the evening.
Jenny planned another Bus Trip for the class for Wednesday, September 29, 2010. The bus will take us to Hawley, PA. We will board a train for a Fall Foliage Train Ride,Dinner at Ehrhardt's Waterfront Resort, and aLive Comedy Show. There are still a few seats on the bus. We will not be meeting for dinner at Hoss's in July because of the Mini Class Reunion at the Bellwood Fire Hall on Saturday, July 31, 2010. The Reunion Committee has planned an eventful evening. Group photo will be taken at 6:00!
Check out the pictures below of the tie tying contest.
APRIL 12, 2010, Getting together for the evening. We had a good time as we played the game, "DID YOU EVER?" That is a game of questions.Example: "Did you ever lock your self out of your house?"the questions and jokes brought on a lot of laughs. We also discussed the Mini Reunion that will take place on Saturday, July 31. at the Bellwood Fire Hall Party room. The reunion committee has been working with plans for a great evening to be had by all that attend. Before Bob Himes received his dinner, he received a call to assist the fire company with his bulldozer to help distinguish a forest fire on Brush Mountain. We celebrated Suzanne Woomer Stehley's birthday. No pictures were taken.
As we gathered together for the evening and ate dinner, we celebrated the birthday's of Kathie Cross McConnell and Beverly McGinnis Hollabaugh with individual birthday cakes for them to take home. Compliments of Hoss's. Jenny told a few jokes and them described how our mind works as we age and how we look at things differently throughtout the aging periods of life. The example she used was about a man working on a project and before he could finish, he must make a trip to the store for something to complete the project he was doing. Ages of the man were divided into 10 year periods, describing our appearences before leaving the house and how our priorities change. We all change as we age. When we first fell in love, we couldn't keep our hands off each other. We were always hugging, kissing and holding hands. As we age, TODAY, we sometimes neglect to do so. That is what gave Jenny the idea for the entertainment for the evening. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU AND YOUR SPOUSE HELD HANDS? If you were blindfolded, could you identify your spouse's hands out of a group of others? The women sat in a circle in the center of the room. A man was blindfolded and lead around the group of women feeling hands until he choose the ones he thought was his spouse. After the men took their turn, we gave the women the same challenge. Did I forget to tell you? After the person was blindfolded those sitting in the seats would change places. It was more difficult than you would think. Sorry to say only one man identified his wife's hand by feel. That was John McConnell. Three women identified their husbands. Sue Brubaker choose Kenny's,Alice Oswald choose Jack's, and Pat Helsley choose John's.We all had a great time. LET US ALL SPEND MORE TME HOLDING OUR SPOUSES HAND.
CLASSMATES and SWEETHEARTS celebrate Valentine's Day at Hoss's on Monday, February 8th. Classmates and spouses joined together for a fun filled evening of games and laughter. After dinner we celebrated the February birthday's of John & Jim Helsley, Walt Carothers and Jenny Showalter with birthday cakes and song. At that time Jenny shared several topics and class news with the group. 1. A mini class Reunion will be held Saturday, July 31, at the Bellwood Fire Hall Banquet Room. The class reunion committee is looking for a good turn out. 2. Help for seniors with "Free Income Tax Preparation" and "Property/Rent Rebate Filing". 3. Jim & John Helsley both suffered heart attacks in January. Twins always do thing together. 4. George Partner broke his foot limiting his means of transportation. Since he had a bad stroke several years ago and cannot drive, he walks or rides his bicycle everywhere. As the evening progressed, the men shared with the group what they thought was a great gift Valentine for their spouse. After hearing all of their suggestions, a number was pulled out of a hat and the winner was presented aSweetheart Valentine starter kit to present to hissweetheart. The contents in the kit was a bottle ofItalian wine,Victoria Secret Bodysplash, tea light candle holder and candle, chocolate kissesand a pair ofred silk lacy thong. We then played a game called "THAT'S ME!" As a number was called, that person would stand up and a statement was read. That person would call out "That Me!" Some of the statements were pretty funny. Ten winners received a Valentine Present Bag as we randomly drew numbers from a hat. Everyone enjoyed the evening with a lot of laughs. If you got Cabin Fever from the winter blues come out March 8th and enjoy an evening of fun with a great group of people.
